Severe storms roar across Missouri

COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) — A series of violent storms swept through central Missouri Monday [1/7], bringing high winds, hail and tornado warnings for several counties.

The National Weather Service issued tornado warnings for parts of Boone, Cole, Morgan and Moniteau counties through at least 4:15 p.m. CT.

Meteorologists said the unusual weather was the result of warm, moist air moving from the south that brought temperatures hovering near 70 degrees on Sunday and Monday.

"It's very unseasonable for this time of year," said meteorologist Benjamin Sipprell from the service's St. Louis office. "The atmosphere is just right."
